African Multiculturalism (ARM)
Programme Overview

Building Inclusive Societies
Across Africa's Diversity

CEREDDA's African Multiculturalism Programme (ARM) addresses the governance and social dimensions of Africa's profound cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity. Grounded in the conviction that diversity is a continental strength — not a source of conflict — the programme advances frameworks for inter-community dialogue, cultural rights protection, and inclusive governance at local, national, and continental levels.

The ARM Programme works with governments, civil society organisations, communities, and African Union bodies to promote models of governance that recognise and celebrate Africa's multicultural heritage while ensuring equitable political participation for all citizens regardless of identity, language, or cultural background.

Programme Pillars

Four Pillars of the ARM Programme

01

Cultural Rights Protection

Advocacy for constitutional and legal frameworks that protect cultural, linguistic, and identity rights of all communities within African states.

02

Inter-Community Dialogue

Structured dialogue platforms that bring together communities, traditional authorities, and government stakeholders to address shared challenges and build mutual understanding.

03

Inclusive Governance Models

Research and policy advisory on governance architectures that enable equitable participation of diverse communities in political decision-making processes.

04

Resource Mobilisation (ARM)

Strategic mobilisation of African and international resources to fund community-level multiculturalism initiatives, research, and governance reform advocacy.

Africa's diversity is not its weakness — it is the source of its greatest creative and democratic potential. Our task is to build institutions that honour it.
